Understand server, query and plugin ports

Use the right endpoint for players and additional software.

The overview separates the main server port, query/plugin port and additional ports. A subdomain is shown separately from the address.

Step by step

  1. Copy the main IP:port for normal player connections.
  2. Use the query/plugin port only for software that needs a separate listener and configure that software to use it.
  3. Keep server.properties on the assigned server port. The service inside the container should use the intended container binding, normally 0.0.0.0.
  4. For another application, check whether it requires TCP, UDP or both; standard allocations are mapped for both protocols.

Check the result

An allocated port only forwards traffic. A plugin or service must actually listen on it.

Important

Two applications cannot generally bind the same port and protocol at the same time. Do not choose arbitrary unallocated shared-IP ports.
